Stories along the transsiberian Railway
THE TASK
We set out for a month on the Trans-Siberian Railway, to collect personal stories and portraits. Место47 (mʲestə: seat) was about that mystery person we were yet to meet, who would sit down on seat47.
We sought to explore vast and confined spaces: The overwhelmingly big size of the Russian Federation contrasted by the cramped and packed compartments of a train carriage with its temporary occupants. Only later did I learn that literaterary scientists have a name for this: chronotopos.
We set out to document life in the Russian Federation. A country that for insiders is the motherland so big, they only discovered their own back yard. For the stranger a mystery, that is so much more than just political headlines.
THE RESULT
We published a selection of our encounters online, as a mix of written and visual stories. Additionally, a few stories were published in the form of a narrative podcast, incorporating original sounds, recorded on the journey.
